Mediation is more than simple conversion of switch records into billing record format. To bill usage records correctly, you need to be able to apply revenue assurance techniques, business intelligence and business rules to the record creation process.

If mediation was a simple conversion of standard switch records to billing format, any mediation system could handle the job, but that is not the case. Different equipment puts out different versions of AMA or other types of CDR. Even
